The Delhi rural belt, comprising 360 villages, led by Palam 360 Khap chief Surender Solanki, has given two more days to the government and put the Chakka Jam on hold until Wednesday against the toll tax on UER-II.

Urban Extension Road-II is a 75.7 km-long, 6-lane, grade-separated expressway in Delhi NCR.

The development comes after two local MLAs met the village representatives at the Mahapanchayat on Sunday, held at Bakkarwala village, following which Solanki informed that a delegation led by him will be meeting Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra and the three MPs, including Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Yogendra Chandolia, and Kamaljeet Sehrawat, to chalk out a solution to the issue on Wednesday afternoon.

Over 15,000 villagers had gathered at the Mahapanchayat on Sunday to decide on the future course of action regarding their movement to oppose the toll tax on UER II, Solanki said.

According to the rural belt leader, it has been decided in the Mahapanchayat that their committee will first meet the government, and then they will decide the further course of action on the issue.

Delhi’s villages along the UER II have been opposing the toll tax imposed on them, and have made it clear that they will not accept the toll tax, as in the villages of other states, including Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, such a levy is not charged from the local villagers for a distance up to 20 km.

Chaudhary Solanki, who heads the North India’s largest Khap Panchayat Palam 360, had earlier said that in the previous Mahapanchayat held on September 13, the villages had decided that they will wait till September 20, and then the very next day, again a Panchayat will be held to decide further plans to intensify the protest if the government does not consider their issue.

Solanki had said that villagers are not happy with the toll as such a levy has never been imposed in the history of Delhi.

The villagers have come together over the issue and have been voicing their displeasure over the poll imposed on them, while they have also demanded U-turns and slip roads along the toll road, like other places and states.

Khap Pradhans from Delhi villages, including Dhara Singh, Pradhan Bawana, Naresh Pradhan Ladosarai, Anar Singh Pradhan Tikri, and Naresh Lakra and Surender Dabas, were also present in the panchayat held here.
