Delhi schoolgirl who committed suicide wrote ‘I am failure’ in notebook

A Class 9 student of a Delhi school committed suicide on Tuesday after alleged harassment by teachers at school. The parents of the 15-year-old girl have alleged that their daughter was being molested by two of her teachers after which she took the extreme step of ending her life.

A few notes scribbled in one of the notebooks of the victim have surfaced which may provide a direction to the investigation. According to a report in the NDTV, the girl wrote that she is a ‘failure’ and that she is ‘dumb’ on one of the pages in a notebook.

The police reportedly seized the notebook from the girl’s study table at her home. The report added that the family has confirmed that it is the girl’s handwriting.

The girl reportedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan on Tuesday.

Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday had ordered a departmental inquiry in connection with the case. The deputy chief minister reportedly said that the girl had committed suicide allegedly due to academic pressure.

The minister added that the girl received her report card on March 16. She had compartment in science and social science and she did not go to school after that.

The parents, however, have alleged that teachers used to touch their daughter inappropriately and that she feared she would be failed for resisting their moves.

A case has been registered under Sections 306 and 506 of the IPC and the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.
