Two suspected arms peddlers have been arrested and a massive cache of arms and ammunition recovered by the special cell of Delhi Police.

The major arms haul comes just days before the Independence Day. Police said that they have arrested Mohammad Azim and Aas Mohammad after two carbines, 50 pistols and 50 cartridges were recovered from their possession.

While Azim is a resident of Malda in West Bengal, Aas is from Shamli in Uttar Pradesh.

According to reports, Azim was arrested earlier this week. The cops caught Aas on Wednesday. They were allegedly involved in supplying arms to Delhi-based criminals for the last four-five years.

Raids are being conducted across the national capital to nab those who ordered the consignment. Police are investigating a possible terror angle.

Security across the country has been beefed up ahead of independence Day on 15 August.
