Delhi Traffic Police has released a traffic advisory ahead of the upcoming Ramlila and Dussehra celebrations at the Red Fort grounds. Traffic restrictions will be enforced from September 22 to October 3, an official said on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Nishant Gupta stated, “Movement will be limited on Netaji Subhash Marg, from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail Chowk, as well as on Nishad Raj Marg, owing to the large crowds expected at these three Ramlila events.”
Traffic along Netaji Subhash Marg and its adjoining areas is likely to experience slow movement and congestion during the festival period. Commuters are advised to avoid this route, opt for alternative paths, follow instructions from traffic officials, and consider using public transportation for a smoother journey.
The Ramlila and Dussehra Parva festivities will take place at the Red Fort grounds in Delhi from September 22 to October 3.
During this time, three prominent Ramlilas—Lav Kush Ramlila, Nav Shri Dharmik Ramlila, and Shri Dharmik Ramlila—will be held, accompanied by amusement rides and food stalls. Daily, large crowds of devotees, visitors, and VIPs are expected.
Anticipating heavy foot traffic and potential traffic congestion, the Delhi Traffic Police have implemented special arrangements to facilitate smooth vehicular movement, ensure pedestrian safety, and enhance public convenience.
Commuters are advised to avoid Netaji Subhash Marg in front of the Red Fort and plan their travel accordingly.
From September 22 to October 3, all commercial vehicles and DTC buses will be rerouted away from Delhi Gate Chowk, Daryaganj, and Chatta Rail Chowk between 5:00 pm and 12:00 midnight and will not be allowed to proceed towards the Red Fort.
During the event, traffic will be limited on Netaji Subhash Marg—from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail Chowk—as well as on Nishad Raj Marg.
If necessary, private vehicles may also be diverted from Chhatta Rail Chowk, T-Point Subhash Marg, Delhi Gate, Shanti Van Chowk, and GPO Chowk on Lothian Road.
Recommended alternative routes include Delhi Gate to Rajghat to Shanti Van to Hanuman Setu to Kelaghat to Chatta Rail and Chatta Rail to Hanuman Setu to Salimgarh Bypass to Rajghat to Delhi Gate.
Visitors without parking permits are advised to use the designated parking areas at Madhav Das Park, Tikona Park, Sunehari Masjid, Parade Ground, Dangal Maidan, Omaxe Mall, and Church Mission Road.
Vehicles with parking labels will have reserved areas near Lahori Gate, 15 August Park, the rampart, and within the 4A Parking Area.
To avoid traffic congestion, commuters are encouraged to use the Delhi Metro, with Lal Quila and Jama Masjid stations being the closest to the venue.
Officials also stated that e-rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, and cycle rickshaws will not be permitted beyond Chhatta Rail Chowk and Delhi Gate on Netaji Subhash Marg.
