The Delhi Police, with the arrest of three persons, have dismantled an interstate syndicate involved in the supply of prohibited psychotropic medicines, they said on Thursday.
The cops got their hands on the trio, Harish Khurana, 55, Gautam Singh, and Amit Goyal, 49, and recovered from them 2,160 capsules of Tramadol.
“Khurana was found to be supplying the narcotic substance while posing as an Ayurvedic medicine seller,” said Harsh Indora, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).
“Singh, who was a small shop owner in Bhagirath Palace, used to supply the drugs to Khurana, while the third, Goyal, who was a medicine shop owner in Bhalotia Market in Gorakhpur, was the main supplier, who used to supply the drugs to Singh,” the officer added.
He further said, “We received information regarding Harish, who supplies prohibited psychotropic medicines in the guise of selling ayurvedic medicines, is coming to deliver Tramadol capsules near Tis Hajari court.”
With this lead, the team laid a trap in the tipped area and arrested him, he added in his statement.
During interrogation, the accused revealed their roles in the supply chain. Khurana, who has a history of involvement in similar cases, stated that he began procuring prohibited medicines from Singh to increase his profits.
Singh, who initially worked as a medicine packer, opened a small shop and started selling over-the-counter medicines and cosmetics at wholesale prices.
Furthermore, Goyal was asked by Singh to arrange Tramadol, which he did, concealing the medicines in normal packages and sending them via courier.
The trio confessed to the crime, and further investigation into this case is underway, the DCP mentioned.
