In view of the ongoing festival season, the Delhi Police beefed up security across the national capital to maintain law and order and thereby safeguard the public.
DCPs from all 15 districts are meeting with their officials and local market committees to assess preparedness for the task and coordinate security arrangements. They discussed the strategies to enhance crowd control, overseeing business districts, and preventing any untoward incident during the festival rush.
“Markets and commercial hubs with high footfall, including Sarojini Nagar, Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, and metro stations, which attract large crowds during the festive season, will be provided with additional security,” a senior police officer said.
In this context, the police have appealed to market associations to assist in enforcing safety measures, such as managing entry and exit points, deploying extra security staff, and conducting awareness campaigns for shopkeepers and visitors.
To strengthen surveillance, CCTV cameras are being installed at vantage spots across markets and transport hubs, including New Delhi Railway Station, ensuring broad coverage and real-time monitoring of crowd movement.
“By keeping a close watch on these feeds, overcrowding can be detected promptly, helping prevent any untoward events,” the officer said.
The Delhi Police are also deploying QRTs and foot patrols across markets and high-traffic localities to ensure prompt action in case of emergencies. Congested spots are being equipped with temporary barriers and signage to guide pedestrian movement and avoid unsafe situations.
“Ensuring public safety in crowded markets and transport hubs is especially crucial during the festival season. We are coordinating closely with market committees, transport authorities, and our field officers to maintain law and order,” said another police officer.
To prevent purse snatching and other petty crimes, anti-theft measures are being intensified in high-traffic areas and around metro stations. Coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been enhanced to facilitate the smooth flow of passengers at railway stations.
Police officials have urged shopkeepers and visitors to promptly report any suspicious activity.
The police have appealed to citizens to cooperate with security personnel and adhere to the guidelines.
