Tremors from a powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake that struck southeastern Afghanistan were felt across Northern India, including the Delhi-NCR region, late Sunday night, triggering panic among residents.
The quake struck southeastern Afghanistan, killing more than 600 people; the devastation was immediate and heartbreaking. Entire villages were flattened, families were buried under rubble, and thousands were left injured.
According to seismic monitoring authorities, the earthquake’s epicentre was located in the Asadabad area of Afghanistan, situated in the north of the Hindu Kush region, at a depth of approximately 29 km.
The quake affected several cities in India at around 12:47 am IST, including Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Kashmir, and even parts of Uttar Pradesh, where residents felt their beds shaking and windows rattling.
Although the earthquake lasted only 5-7 seconds, it led to a panic situation, with people rushing out of their homes in fear.
The tremor’s impact was not limited to India; but Tajikistan, Pakistan, and Afghanistan also felt the jolt, along with people in major cities like Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Quetta, and Peshawar also getting affected.
