Delhi LG reviews civic conditions, lays stress on toilets, water ATMs

Chairing a meeting of the three municipal corporations and the NDMC on various issues, Lt Governor Anil Baijal reviewed progress of the Swachh Bharat Mission. He also reviewed other civic issues related to cashless/digital transactions, mechanical sweeping of roads, construction of new community and public toilets, maintenance of parks, involvement of RWAs in monitoring cleanliness of roads, public places and dhalaos, display of public notices and uniform billboards/signages, development of parking lots and multi-level parking, installation of water ATMs, et al.

On construction of household toilets, community toilets and public toilets, the LG directed deputy commissioners of the three MCDs to monitor the progress of their work to ensure time-bound and quality construction. He emphasised on regular maintenance of parks and open gyms and cleanliness of roads, public places, dhalaos, etc. Baijal said community involvement must also be ensured.

The LG asked the municipal bodies to expedite installation of water ATMs in view of extremely hot weather. He added that mechanical sweeping also had to be increased to cater to the needs of the citizens of Delhi. He directed commissioners of the three MCDs and NDMC chairman to put up boards at prominent places mentioning the contact numbers of persons who could be contacted for making complaints related to cleanliness. As regards disposal of municipal solid waste, the LG asked for quick implementation of integrated system of garbage collection and disposal.

The LG also instructed the municipal bodies to explore the possibility of landscaping the existing landfill sites with greenery so that they presented an aesthetic picture. He suggested that trash bins be placed on both sides of the roads in adequate numbers.
