The Delhi government’s Department of Cooperation on Saturday launched a plantation drive in Dwarka as part of the ongoing “Sahkar Se Samriddhi – Cooperative Week 2026”, with a target of planting around 10,000 saplings across the city during the week-long campaign.

Ravinder Indraj Singh, Delhi’s Minister for Social Welfare and Cooperation, inaugurated the drive at Dhoolsiras village in Sector 24, Dwarka. The event was attended by Dwarka-C councillor Sunita Ramniwas Pehalwan, officials of the cooperation department, representatives of cooperative institutions and residents.

According to the department, plantation activities will be carried out in Narela, Dwarka, Rohini and other locations identified by the Forest Department with the participation of cooperative societies, volunteers and local communities.

Addressing the gathering, Singh said tree plantation was essential for improving Delhi’s environment and urged residents to plant and care for at least one sapling. He said the campaign would focus on species that support urban biodiversity, particularly fruit-bearing trees that provide food for birds while helping improve air quality and expand the city’s green cover.

The minister said the Delhi government has set a target of planting more than 70 lakh saplings across the national capital this year and expressed confidence that coordinated efforts by government departments and public participation would help achieve the goal.

The plantation campaign is one of several activities being organised during Cooperative Week 2026. The department is also conducting public outreach programmes and online and offline quiz competitions to promote awareness of the cooperative movement.

The week-long programme will conclude on July 6 with a closing ceremony recognising individuals and institutions for their contributions to the cooperative sector.
