Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Tuesday inaugurated a central tissue bank and a new office of the Delhi Dental Council (DDC) at the Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS).

The tissue bank, set up in the Department of Periodontology, will provide patients needing tissue or bone grafts direct access at the institute. According to the health department, this is the first such facility to be established in a dental institution anywhere in India.

The DDC, responsible for registering dentists and monitoring professional standards in the capital, has also rolled out a fully digital and cashless “e-Office” system. Officials said it makes DDC the first state dental council in the country to move all services — including registration and renewal — online within defined timelines, a shift aimed at improving transparency and ease of access.

Speaking at the event, Singh said the new facilities mark a step forward for healthcare delivery and dental education in Delhi. While the digital DDC office is expected to improve efficiency for practitioners, the tissue bank is designed to make dental care more affordable and accessible, he said.
