In view of the ongoing festive season, Delhi’s Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh on Monday chaired a meeting with officials of the Food Safety Department, directing them to carry out intensive inspections across the city to ensure that food items being sold during the festivals meet all safety and hygiene norms.

As part of the ongoing inspection drive, officials have collected 20 samples of food items—prominently including paneer, khoya, and spices—from different parts of Delhi, and in addition to that, 139 samples of raw non-vegetarian items were also collected for testing.

The department has assured that all consumable products are being rigorously checked and monitored to safeguard public health during the festive period.

The minister has made it very clear that health and safety of every citizen of the national capital is of paramount concern for the government, and CM Rekha Gupta-led dispensation has zero tolerance for adulteration and malpractices.

“Our teams are on the ground, and we will take the strictest action against any entity found violating the food safety standards,” he added.

Dr. Singh also instructed officials to conduct thorough checks on packaged drinking water brands, given the wide variety of products available in the market.

He emphasised that every brand must strictly adhere to standard safety and quality protocols.

The minister further directed the department to inspect all chains of sweet shops operating under the same brand name to verify if they qualify under food safety norms and maintain uniform standards across outlets.

The Food Safety Department has assured the Minister for the intensive ground-level inspection and informed that they are receiving full cooperation from the Delhi Police, who are responding promptly to calls for joint inspections and enforcement.

Dr Singh has said that the Delhi government led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is fully committed to ensuring that every citizen consumes safe, hygienic, and quality food, especially during the festive season.

“Any negligence in food safety will be dealt with strictly and without exception,” the minister added.
