Delhi Art and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra, highlighting the immense potential of the national capital for ecotourism and wildlife, alleged that previous governments completely overlooked these areas.
The minister assured of the current government’s commitment to revitalizing wildlife and ecotourism in the national capital.
Mishra, who was present at the opening session of the Global Wildlife Fair-2025, at the Constitution Club of India, said Delhi is home to a rich biodiversity, including numerous species of birds and mammals, as well as significant ecological sites like biodiversity parks, the Yamuna riverbank, and the expansive Ridge area.
He lamented that over the past two to three decades, these aspects of biodiversity and tourism have been entirely neglected. As a result, tourism in Delhi has largely been confined to iconic landmarks like the Red Fort and Qutub Minar. But the current government is actively working to promote these unexplored areas, he assured.
He also announced that the Delhi government would organize weekly walks and various other programs to promote wildlife and ecotourism, with logistical support and financial resources provided by the government.
The minister emphasized the need to collaboratively develop a plan and strategy to establish Delhi as a hub for ecotourism within the next two to three years.
He expressed confidence that, with the dedication of committed individuals, Delhi can become a global center for eco-tourism aligning with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He extended heartfelt gratitude to the organizers for hosting such a remarkable three-day event in Delhi for the first time. He shared that, when the organizers approached him with the proposal, he was thrilled about the initiative and decided to make it an annual fair.
