As part of the efforts to modernise public health infrastructure in city hospitals, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh reviewed the progress of ongoing infrastructure and civic development works at a meeting with the medical director and senior officials of Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital.

According to an official document, the minister, while chairing the meeting, directed officials to expedite the work to operationalise 14 new ICU beds at the hospital. Responding to complaints from patients and medical staff about the inconvenience caused by old and non-functional lifts last month, the minister also instructed his team to replace them with modern, functional elevators at the earliest.

Singh also directed that the Emergency Ward be upgraded with a ventilator-based monitoring system and other modern life-support equipment.

To enhance safety, the Minister instructed the  medical director to cover all exposed electrical wires across patient areas. Recognising GTB Hospital’s heavy footfall as a border-area facility, he also asked the Medical Superintendent to establish a crowd-management plan, including clear signage, orderly patient-flow lanes, so that patients do not face any harassment or inconvenience.

He asked the official to personally inspect the progress of all ongoing works and submit a detailed status report to the Minister’s office.

“Healthcare is a fundamental right, not a privilege. Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, we are working round-the-clock to transform every hospital into a modern, efficient and patient-friendly facility,” said Singh.

The Delhi government continues to take proactive steps to improve health infrastructure, modernise hospital facilities, and ensure affordable, quality care for all.
