Terming it a matter of grave concern, Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav on Saturday alleged that delivery agents working for online retailers and courier companies are also transporting narcotics by concealing them in other items, while the police and the BJP government remain unaware of this racket.

Yadav said drug peddlers hide narcotics in clothes, shoes, sweets, and other gift packets to avoid police detection during delivery.

He said that unless the government takes urgent and decisive action, the drug mafia will continue to thrive in the city, posing a serious challenge to the authorities.

The Delhi Congress chief said the party launched an anti-drug awareness campaign from the Badli Assembly constituency on May 26, which was subsequently held across all 70 Assembly seats under the banner ‘Congress Ka Yudh – Nashe Aur Apradh Ke Viruddh’.

Taking a dig at the present regime, he said his party’s campaign did not appear to have awakened the Delhi government — a fact he claimed was evident from the alleged murder of a 22-year-old tea seller by drug peddlers in Seemapuri, as well as the arrest of five foreign nationals with drugs worth Rs 100 crore on July 25.

Yadav claimed that the city is turning into a hub for the drug mafia and the crime capital of the country, with both the police and the government failing to rein in criminal activities.

He said the purpose of the Congress’s anti-drug campaign was to curb the narcotics trade in every nook and corner of the city, particularly in JJ clusters, unauthorised colonies, markets, religious places, and similar areas.
