A replica of the iconic Qutub Minar made from municipal waste material is first of its kind  “waste to art” creation in Delhi. It cost Rs 16 lakh and was erected at a new roundabout near the Delhi international airport.

Lt Governor Anil Baijal inaugurated the project, alongside a beautified site underneath the Mahipalpur flyover in south Delhi, ahead of the Indo-ASEAN summit here. According to the official statement, “the most important feature of the development project is that the replica of the Qutab Minar has been produced from the waste material lying at South Delhi Municipal Corporation stores.

The new roundabout was made to dress up the Capital that shall receive leaders from all 10 ASEAN countries to attend Republic Day celebrations at Rajpath as chief guests. A host of commemorative events are being organise to mark 25 years of Indo-ASEAN ties. ASEAN summit is slated to be held on 25 January 25.
