Throwing the tall claims of the BJP government in Delhi about freeing the city from the woes of waterlogging following heavy rainfall since Friday night, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) President Devender Yadav said that BJP leaders came to power in Delhi to play the divide and rule game.

Taking to the roads in the heavily waterlogged Karol Bagh area, Yadav said that he came to see for himself the suffering of the people on submerged and clogged roads to call the BJP’s bluff.

Stating that instead of doing some development works to undo the devastation caused by the corrupt misrule of the Kejriwal Government for over 11 years, Yadav said that the falsehood of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who promised to clean up Delhi with a sanitation drive from August 1 to August 30, has been completely exposed in front of the people, as the rains brought out all the trash accumulated in the Capital to public view everywhere.

He said that CM Rekha Gupta had claimed after the heavy rains in July that there would be no more waterlogging, but he himself experienced the agony of getting caught on waterlogged roads on Saturday morning.

Yadav further said that the BJP Government’s assurance of taking all the necessary steps to prevent waterlogging and traffic jams got washed away as heavy rains battered the Capital with the residents of the city waking up to witness clogged streets and intense jams.

He said that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had claimed that there was “no waterlogging”, though the fact was that most parts of Delhi had gone under water that day. He said that crores have already been spent by the BJP Government for desilting of drains and other civil works to prevent waterlogging, yet such work was not visible when the Capital got submerged on Saturday, with traffic coming to a standstill.

The DPCC President said that Delhi witnessed a wet start to the weekend as heavy rains left several areas heavily waterlogged, bringing the national Capital to a standstill with water entering even the prestigious Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan on Mathura Road.

He said that people who went out to celebrate Raksha Bandhan got stranded on the roads for several hours as public transport was either crowded or took long hours to arrive, forcing people to brave the rains on the roadside.

Yadav said that ever since the Rekha Gupta Government assumed charge in Delhi nearly six months ago, Delhiites have been hearing the constant refrain that broken roads would be repaired and the stormwater drains and sewers would be desilted, but the BJP Government’s hollow claim was exposed again when the city went under water today.
