Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav strongly condemned the attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at her official residence at Civil Lines during a public interaction on Wednesday, terming it as “very unfortunate”.

Yadav pointing towards the issue of women safety, said that if the CM, who was participating in a “Jan Sunwai” programme at her official residence where tight security is a norm, is not safe, then it shows the allegedly deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital, while crimes against women are on a rise, he claimed.

“When the Chief Minister of Delhi is not safe, how will the security of the common people of Delhi and women working outside their homes be ensured? The blatant attack on CM Rekha Gupta by a man against whom there are many police complaints pending, is a huge security lapse”, Yadav observed.

He said that the attack on the CM raises a big question about the disturbed law and order, as those in power seem to be in deep slumber with crimes proliferating everywhere, including the business of drugs in every nook and corner of the city, he claimed.
Yadav has sought strict action against the man who attacked the CM, adding that there is no place for violence in politics.

He further extended best wishes to CM for her fast recovery.

Yadav also mentioned that the attack on the CM is a lapse on the part of the concerned security personnel detailed for her security duties.

Further, the Delhi Congress chief stated that during the monsoon session of the assembly, the CM had announced that women will be allowed to work even at night in the capital and adequate arrangements will be made for their safety and security.

He added that when crimes are taking place every minute on every corner of Delhi, most of them are against women, how will women step out of their homes when the police cannot prevent crimes against them.

Yadav also said that the grand old party has been appealing since long to improve Delhi’s disturbed law and order situation to the Lieutenant Governor, Union Home Minister, Chief Minister and Police Commissioner, requesting to beef up security and increase vigilance as snatchings, robbery, gangster threats to businessmen, attacks on women, and other crimes have seen a rise in the city.
