Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav on Tuesday lambasted the BJP government for passing the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, calling it “anti-people” and “anti-student” bill.
Addressing a protest demonstration staged by parents outside the Delhi Vidhan Sabha here, he said the Bill introduced by BJP led government intends to gain profits for the school management by increasing fees arbitrarily without the concurrence of parents.
Stating that Delhi Congress was the first to point out the gaps in the Bill before it was introduced in the Delhi Assembly, Yadav said that it was yet another anti-people Bill being enforced by the BJP Government on the people.
Accusing the BJP government of passing Bills without consensus or agreement from the people, Yadav said that it is similar to the farm Bills passed by the Modi Government, which were eventually rolled back a year later due to the determined and sustained protest by the farmers.
“Similarly, the Rekha Gupta Government brought the Delhi Education Bill in the Assembly without seeking suggestions/opinions from the parents by putting it in the public domain, which was a normal procedure in a democracy,” he said.
The Bill does not include measures to reverse fee hikes implemented by private schools earlier in 2025. The delay in introducing the Bill between April to July allowed schools to raise fees unchecked, and the Bill effectively legitimizes these increases by not addressing rollbacks, he said adding that Gupta Government’s sole intention in bringing the Bill was to favour the schools at the cost of students and their parents.
He said that already, many parents are unable to afford the steep hike in tuition fees implemented by some schools, and the provisions in this Bill only embolden other schools to follow suit.
