Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights reconstituted on CM’s directions, Om Prakash Vyas appointed chairperson

Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government has taken a significant and crucial step towards strengthening the protection and promotion of children’s rights by reconstituting the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), which had remained without a chairperson nearly three years.

Through a notification issued by the Department of Women and Child Development, the government has reconstituted the Commission by appointing one Chairperson and four Members.
According to the notification, Om Prakash Vyas has been appointed as the Chairperson of the DCPC, while Rahul Gautam, Kundan Kanskar, Swati Gupta and Monika Sharma have been appointed as Members.

These appointments have been made in exercise of the powers conferred under the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, 2008, and the relevant notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

All appointments will take effect from the date the respective appointees assume office, and each appointee will serve a term of three years.

However, if the prescribed age limit is attained before the completion of the tenure, the term will end on that date.

Notably, the maximum age limit is 65 years for the Chairperson and 60 years for the Members.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that every child deserves a safe, dignified and a childhood filled with opportunities.

Gupta has emphasized that protecting the rights of children remains the her government’s highest priority, and strengthening the commission is an important step in that direction.

She expressed confidence that the Commission’s new leadership will work with sensitivity, transparency and responsibility to ensure the effective protection of children’s rights.

CM Gupta added that the government remains firmly committed to safeguarding the interests of every child and supporting their holistic development.
