Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday laid the foundation stone for an oxygen park to be developed on three acres in Mukhmelpur village in the Burari assembly constituency of the North West Delhi. According to Gupta, the Forest Department has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for the project, while an additional Rs 1 crore will be provided from her MLA discretionary fund.
She directed officials to ensure that the park is equipped with modern amenities of the standard that would place it among the finest parks of Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Rekha Gupta said besides building modern infrastructure, protecting the environment and improving quality of life of the citizens in a developed Delhi remain key priorities of the government. The Mukhmelpur park will not merely serve as a green zone but will also emerge as a centre for health, social interaction, and positive living for local residents.
The CM said her government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) are working together to create more green spaces, modernise existing parks and expand public amenities across the national capital. Amid the growing population of the city, sSuch public spaces play an important role in helping people reconnect with nature, reduce stress and adopt healthier lifestyles.
The park will include walking tracks, attractive energy-efficient lighting, huts for seating and relaxation, a landscaped pond and a variety of shade-giving tree species.
Large green lawns and open spaces will also be developed as part of the project, the CM said, adding that once completed, the park would benefit thousands of residents not only from Mukhmelpur, but also from neighbouring areas such as Jindpur, Bakhtawarpur, Hiranki and other nearby villages.
She expressed confidence that initiatives such as Oxygen Parks, plantation drives and other environmental conservation efforts would go a long way in making Delhi cleaner, greener, and more liveable.
She said the Delhi government has set a target of planting more than 70 lakh trees, shrubs and hedges this year.
Notably, the CM also assured locals that the government would provide the necessary financial support for covering a polluted drain in the area and carrying out other local development works.
Gupta shared that the government has already initiated projects worth nearly Rs 10,000 crore in across the rural belt and areas of outer Delhi, that include roads, drainage, transport, education and healthcare infrastructure.
Once completed, these projects will significantly improve public services and civic amenities, she added.
