Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated more than 70 ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandirs’ to provide affordable, accessible and qualitative healthcare services to citizens of the national capital.

She called the initiative a transformative step towards bolstering and modernising Delhi’s primary healthcare system, ensuring that people coming from all sections of society have access to health services.

According to the CM, these Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will offer a wide range of facilities at the local level, including regular health check-ups, free essential and common medicines, maternal and child healthcare services, necessary immunisation, disease prevention and health-promotion counselling, as well as online tele-consultation with specialist doctors all under one roof.

Gupta inspected all the facilities available at the newly established medical centre at Model Town, and also reviewed arrangements across others, while also held detailed discussions with healthcare workers regarding the services, equipment and operations.

These new centres, that are more than 70 in number, have been set up across almost all major regions of the city, including North, Central, North-West, Shahdara, West, New Delhi, South-West, East, South-East, South and North-East Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Gupta has said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government aims to ensure that every citizen receives better, affordable and free healthcare services without facing any hurdles.

She added that schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, Jan Aushadhi Kendras, Vaya Vandana Yojana and now Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are collectively equipping the national capital with modern health infrastructure.

Gupta stated that the state government is committed to ensuring timely treatment, affordable medicines and strong primary healthcare facilities across every corner of the city.

Slamming the earlier Mohalla Clinic model, Gupta alleged that neither doctors, nor medicines, adequate staff were available there.

She said that, in contrast, the Arogya Mandirs function as true primary health centres, offering regular access to essential services such as dressings, medicines, immunisation, family planning and many more.

As per CM, around 250 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have already been established, and the target is to set up more than 1,000 such centres.

CM emphasized that in view of the increasing pressure on large hospitals, these neighbourhood-level health facilities have become essential, and the government’s aim is to have fifteen such centers in each assembly constituency.

Meanwhile, Gupta also appealed to the public to cooperate in the overall development of their areas so that the vision presented by PM Modi for Delhi can be realised, and the national capital can be transformed into a modern and healthy city.
