Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta celebrated Onam with the city’s Malayali community at her residence on Sunday, extending greetings and joining the traditional festivities.

Gupta praised Malayali families in Delhi for preserving their cultural traditions and enriching the city’s heritage. She said Onam, apart from being a harvest festival, is also a celebration of “brotherhood, unity, and happiness.”

During the event, the Chief Minister took part in traditional dance performances and served guests authentic Onam delicacies.

In her address, Gupta said Onam has grown from being a festival of Kerala to a global celebration, thanks to the Malayali community’s presence worldwide. She described the community as known for its “hard work, honesty, spirit of cooperation, and patriotism.”

Calling for harmony in the capital, she said: “Let us all draw inspiration from this festival and make Delhi into a true family, where every religion, every community, and every tradition is accorded equal respect.” She added that over the next ten days, Delhi would remain immersed in the spirit of Onam.

Extending wishes to the nearly 10 lakh Malayali families in Delhi, Gupta said, “May every household be filled with happiness and joy. Delhi stands with Kerala in its happiness and sorrow.”
