Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday flagged off 300 new electric DEVi buses from the East Vinod Nagar bus depot, introducing rationalised routes for the Trans-Yamuna region of the national capital.

With technical support from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, the bus routes have been rationalised to ensure connectivity from the border areas to the innermost parts of the region.

According to the Chief Minister, these 300 buses are not just about adding numbers to the fleet but ensuring that routes are designed to actually reach people across the Trans-Yamuna region, enhancing connectivity in remote areas.

“This is the beginning of a new era of public transport in Delhi. Our government is committed to Green Delhi – Clean Delhi, with clean, affordable, and accessible transport,” the CM said.

Gupta explained that IIT Delhi designed the routes based on passenger demand. This, she said, would ensure passengers do not face inconvenience while the Delhi Transport Corporation avoids unnecessary losses.

The CM also announced that within the next 12–18 months, all public transport buses in Delhi would be converted to electric vehicles, reducing pollution and moving the city towards green energy.

She criticised the previous government for alleged corruption and negligence during the past decade, saying it would take time to fix, but stressed her government’s determination to build a ‘Viksit Delhi.’

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Harsh Malhotra praised the Delhi government, stating that under the “double-engine” regime, development is now reaching every assembly and ward of the national capital—unlike the last decade, when basic needs were allegedly ignored.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh highlighted that East Delhi had, for the first time, received rationalised bus routes. He explained that 21 new routes have been launched in the Trans-Yamuna region, covering 625 bus stops.

“This is the first-ever route rationalisation in Delhi. A detailed study is already underway to implement it across the whole city, so that buses can reach every corner with last-mile connectivity,” Singh added.

MLAs Ravindra Negi, Ravi Kant, and senior DTC officials were also present at the event. The initiative is part of the ongoing Seva Pakhwada (Service Fortnight) that began on September 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and will continue till October 2.
