In a meeting of the Delhi Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Rekh Gupta on Tuesday, a decision was taken to increase the prize money for the capital’s athletes who win medals in different games like the Olympics, Asian, Commonwealth, and National games.
The cabinet decided to increase the prize money for the Olympics and Paralympics medal winners. Those who bag Gold will be given Rs 7 crore, Silver winners Rs 5 crore and Bronze winners Rs 3 crore prize money, Minister Ashish Sood informed while briefing media persons following the meeting.
Similarly, the cabinet has also given its nod to increase the prize money for Delhi’s sportspersons who bag medals in the Asian/Para-Asian Games, and now the gold medal winners will get Rs 3 crore, SIlver winners Rs 2 crore and Bronze medal winners Rs 1 crore.
As for the Commonwealth/Para- CWG, the gold medalists will now be given Rs 2 crore, Silver Rs 1.5 crore and Bronze medalists Rs 1 crore.
The cabinet has also approved a hike in the prize money for the national and para- national games medalists, who will now get Rs 11 lakh, Rs 5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh respectively.
Additionally, elite sports persons representing Delhi at national and international levels will receive an annual support of Rs 20 lakh, the minister added.
So far, the Olympic Gold medal winners from Delhi, were given Rs 3 crore, Silver medal winners Rs 2 crore and Bronze Rs 1 crore, as the prize money.
Sood further informed that the recognition of the winners will not be limited to prize money increase, they will also be given government jobs, like other state sportspersons.
Olympic winners with Gold and Silver medals will be assigned Group ‘A’ jobs, while Bronze winners shall be appointed for a Group ‘B’ category job.
Paralympics medal winners, winning Gold, Silver, or Bronze will be assigned a Group ‘B’ job.
Asian Games Gold medalists will be given a Group ‘A’ appointment and Silver, Bronze winners to get Group ‘B’ jobs.
As for the Para- Asian Games, the Gold medal winners will be given Group ‘B’ jobs, while the Silver and Bronze medalists will be assigned Group ‘C’ jobs.
Sood also informed that Gold and Silver medalists in Commonwealth Games will be assigned Group B jobs, while the Bronze winners will be assigned Group ‘C’.
Para-CWG winners, all medals will be assigned Group ‘C’ jobs, he added.
Meanwhile, CM Rekh Gupta, taking to social media platform X, stated that these decisions would not only provide financial stability to the players, but will also give a boost to their self- respect for their lifetime.
Gupta also said that this will also boost confidence of the sportspersons in Delhi, that their hard work will be recognized and rewarded.
