Delhi BJP demands Mamata’s resignation over Sandeshkhali incidents

The Delhi unit of the BJP staged a protest demonstration here on Friday against the West Bengal government over the developments of Sandeshkhali where a local TMC leader and his supporters are allegedly involved in land-grab and sexual abuse of women.

BJP workers under the leadership of its Delhi unit president, Virendra Sachdeva, held a demonstration near the Banga Bhawan demanding the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the matter.

Addressing the party workers, the Delhi BJP chief said, “Mamata Banerjee has not yet condemned Sheikh Shahjahan (the key accused in the case). Her silence on the Sandeshkhali incidents despite being a woman is shameful and painful.”

Slamming the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government for the shameful incidents, he said, “Today’s demonstration is not just a demonstration but a message of accountability for the entire country that the TMC Government is solely responsible for this shameful incident. The chief minister of the state is a woman under whose nose goons of a privileged class are committing such shameful incidents.”

Sachdeva said the Bengal government arrested Sheikh Shahjahan only after the intervention of the court.

Slamming the Opposition INDIA bloc, the Delhi BJP president said, “Today, no leader of the INDIA bloc is speaking on this matter. Therefore, whenever any of the alliance leaders comes to ask for votes, he should be asked about this incident because this is the real face of this alliance.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said, “The kind of incident that has happened in Bengal is so sensitive that it warrants immediate resignation of Mamata Banerjee as chief minister.”

Banerjee’s party has become a safe haven for criminals, he alleged.
