Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva has welcomed the new draft Electric Vehicle (EV) policy introduced by the Delhi government, stating that it could reduce vehicular pollution across the national capital to negligible levels within the next three to seven years.
Sachdeva said that under the policy, not only will private two-wheelers and four-wheelers receive exemptions on registration fees and road tax, but it will also encourage people to adopt electric vehicles for personal use.
He added that the Delhi government has also promoted the transition in commercial vehicles by offering substantial exemptions in road tax and registration fees for electric goods carriers in the draft policy.
The BJP leader pointed out that auto-rickshaws are an important part of Delhi’s public transport system, and from January 1, 2027, allowing only e-autos to be registered, along with full exemptions, will help make the system more eco-friendly and cleaner.
He further said that promoting EVs in the three- and four-wheeler commercial goods carrier segments will also help control pollution on the roads.
According to Sachdeva, one of the most notable features of the new EV policy is that the Delhi government will use only electric vehicles for its own operations.
Additionally, public transport buses and N1 category trucks will also be fully electric, which could lead to a reduction of more than 10 per cent in vehicular pollution within two years of implementation.
