In a bid to strengthen the security framework of the Delhi Legislative Assembly and ensure full preparedness ahead of the special session scheduled for Tuesday, a high-level Joint Security Review Meeting was convened at the Vidhan Sabha on Monday, following directions from Speaker Vijender Gupta.
The review gains added significance in view of the upcoming Fifth (Special) Session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly on April 28, reflecting a coordinated and calibrated effort to align all security and administrative arrangements.
A series of enhanced security measures are currently being implemented. These include the installation of hydraulic road blockers at all entry points, reinforcement of access control systems, and the establishment of a more responsive on-ground security mechanism within the Assembly premises.
Additionally, a Quick Response Team (QRT) from the Central Reserve Police Force is being deployed to ensure swift and effective handling of any emergency situation.
The meeting was chaired by Assembly Secretary Ranjit Singh and attended by senior officials from the Assembly Secretariat, Delhi Police, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
Key participants included multiple Deputy Commissioners of Police overseeing North District, Traffic, PCR, Security, and Delhi Armed Police battalions, along with the Commandant of the 55th Battalion of CRPF.
Discussions focused on coordinated strategies to enhance institutional security and ensure seamless inter-agency functioning. Authorities deliberated extensively on threat perception, intelligence inputs, deployment planning, surveillance infrastructure, communication networks, and contingency preparedness.
As part of revised access protocols, entry to the Assembly premises during the session will be restricted to Gate No. 1, while other gates will remain closed. This measure aims to streamline movement and strengthen perimeter control.
The review also covered visitor management, frisking procedures, traffic regulation, and emergency response systems, including medical readiness, fire safety, and evacuation plans.
These measures come in the wake of recent bomb threats received by the Assembly and a security breach reported within the premises, prompting authorities to adopt heightened vigilance and robust safeguards.
