The FIR filed by the Delhi Police in connection with the security breach of the Delhi Legislative Assembly revealed shocking details about the incident. Driving at a high speed, the accused, Sarbjeet Singh, allegedly attempted to kill a CRPF constable by running him over on the assembly premises.
Currently in police custody, Sarbjeet Singh is undergoing treatment as he is stated to be mentally disturbed.
Head Constable Jai Prakash Narayan, posted at Gate No. 2 (Mall Road side) was discharging his security and access control duties when the accused, driving a white Tata Sierra, approached the gate at high speed. Despite being signaled to stop, he allegedly accelerated and rammed into the closed gate, breaking it open along with the boom barrier and barged into the high-security zone.
The complainant stated that as Sarbjeet Singh drove straight towards him in an apparent attempt to crush him under the wheel, he had to jump aside to save his life. The FIR further alleged that he proceeded towards the main porch of the assembly and threatened security personnel deployed there while driving recklessly, obstructing public servants on duty.
Sarbjeet Singh again sped towards Gate No. 2 and made another attempt to run over the CRPF personnel, who narrowly escaped for the second time.
The FIR also notes that police and forensic teams collected evidence from the spot, including paint samples from the damaged gate and broken vehicle parts, while the injured constable was sent for medical examination.
Sources said that Sarabjeet had planned to visit Bangla Sahib Gurudwara with a bouquet but instead ended up at the Delhi Assembly.
Singh, a resident of Pilibhit, was placed under arrest on Monday. Two of his associates were also detained, along with him, for questioning.
According to sources, Sarbjeet’s nephew, Harman Singh, has been missing since April 1 and a report in this regard was registered at the Hari Nagar police station. A development left him deeply distressed.
