The Delhi Legislative Assembly on Tuesday held a detailed discussion on the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fee) Bill, 2025, with both ruling party and opposition members presenting their views.
The discussion on the Bill was initiated by Education Minister Ashish Sood, following which the Bill was passed by the House.
BJP MLA Ajay Kumar Mahawar, speaking during the session, highlighted the advantages of the Bill, stating that it safeguards the interests of students and parents against arbitrary fee hikes by private schools.
Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht also endorsed the Bill, praising its intent to protect students’ rights. He criticized the previous government’s education model, claiming that it was misleading and did not deliver what was initially promised.
Other members, including Tarvinder Singh Marwah and opposition leader Prem Chauhan, also participated in the discussion, which is expected to continue during the monsoon session.
Earlier in the day, Minister Sood met with a group of parents to discuss the Bill ahead of its presentation in the Assembly. He listened to their concerns and assured them that the legislation is a landmark reform aimed at creating a transparent, fair, and accountable framework for fee regulation in unaided private schools.
Sood clarified that the Bill does not undermine government authority, as some have suggested. On the contrary, he said, it complements and strengthens the existing statutory framework under the Delhi School Education Act, 1973, and its associated rules.
According to the minister, the new Bill neither supersedes nor contradicts existing laws but introduces additional checks and balances to protect the interests of students and parents.
