Delhi Assembly announces house committees for 2026-27, Speaker emphasizes stronger legislative deliberation

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Thursday informed that the legislature has officially constituted its House Committees for the 2026-27 legislative year.
Highlighting the significance of the newly-formed panels, the Speaker stated that these committees would immensely facilitate the legislative process, ensuring rigorous oversight and structured deliberation on matters of public welfare.

Gupta expressed confidence that the appointed members’ collective experience would significantly strengthen democratic accountability in the National Capital Territory. He extended his best wishes to all Chairpersons and Members of the newly-constituted Committees, expressing confidence that these panels will further strengthen the Assembly’s efficiency and accountability while ensuring effective oversight of public welfare matters.
He also expressed hope that the Committees would make meaningful recommendations and contribute significantly towards addressing the aspirations and concerns of Delhi’s citizens.

The Business Advisory Committee will be chaired by the Speaker, and will also have Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, Chief Whip Abhay Kumar Verma, Jitender Mahajan, Om Prakash Sharma, Raj Kumar Chauhan, Som Dutt, Surendra Kumar, and Surya Prakash Khatri as members.
Meanwhile, the Committee on Private Members’ Bills & Resolutions is also constituted under the chairmanship of the Speaker.

The Committee on Government Assurances will function under the Deputy Speaker’s chairmanship. Alongside it, the Committee on Petitions will have MLA Manoj Kumar Shokeen as its Chairperson. The Rules Committee will be led directly by the Speaker, serving as Chairperson, who will be joined on this high-level panel by Deputy Speaker.
Concurrently, the Questions & References Committee is set up under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker.

The General Purposes Committee will see the Vijender Gupta, presiding as Chairperson over a robust lineup of members including Deputy Speaker Chief Whip, and other members including Ashok Goel, Chaudhary Zubair Ahmad, Manoj Kumar Shokeen, Raj Kumar Bhatia, Tilak Ram Gupta, and Veer Singh Dhingan.

The Committee of Privileges will be steered by Chairperson Praduymn Singh Rajput, Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will be chaired by Kailash Gangwal, and Committee on Papers Laid on the Table has been constituted under the chairmanship of Gopal Rai.

The Committee on Women and Child Welfare will be headed by Chairperson Poonam Sharma, the Committee on Welfare of Students and Youth is assigned to Chairperson Aahir Deepak Chaudhry.

The Committee on Welfare of Minorities will function under the chairmanship of Tarvinder Singh Marwah, and the Committee on Issues Related to Unauthorised Colonies will be headed by Kuldeep Solanki as Chairperson.
The specialized House Committee on Violation of Protocol Norms and Contemptuous Behaviour by Government Officers with MLAs will be chaired by Kailash Gahlot, and the Committee on Peace and Harmony will be headed by the Deputy Speaker.
The Department Related Standing Committee on Education (covering Education, Higher Education, Training, Art, Culture, and Sports) is established under the sole chairmanship of Umang Bajaj.

The Department Related Standing Committee on Finance and Transport (governing Finance, Trade & Taxes, Excise & Luxury Tax, Planning, Transport, Tourism, and any departments not explicitly allotted to other committees) has been officially assigned to Chairperson Ravinder Singh Negi.
This crucial oversight panel will execute its duties with a dedicated assembly of members comprising Aaley Mohammed Iqbal, Ashok Goel, Jarnail Singh, Karnail Singh, Kartar Singh Tanwar, Praduymn Singh Rajput, Ravi Kant, and Virender Singh Kadian.
