The Delhi Commission for Women and Delhi Police rescued a minor girl from a life of prostitution in Safdarjung area and arrested five persons, including the victim’s aunt.

According to police, the matter was reported by Swati Maliwal, chief of DCW. Four men and a woman were arrested from the area. Investigations are continuing to nab the other associates of the accused.

Maliwal told The Statesman: “The matter came to light when a lady brought the minor girl to DCW. The girl, now aged 16, belongs to Malkangiri district in Odisha and was brought to Delhi by her maternal aunt in 2013. She was 11 years old at that time.”

Maliwal said the victim was sent to dance classes in Munirka and later kept as a babysitter in her house by her aunt. She provided tuitions to the girl for some time at her home.

Later they shifted to Safdarjung where she forced the minor girl to have physical relations with a man. Subsequently, the aunt regularly sent her to different men ~ up to 8 men in a day.

The sexual and physical atrocities on the victim continued for three years and during this time she got pregnant once and was foced to undergo an abortion by her aunt. She was forced to eat pills.

“The survivor informed DCW that she was taken to bars and different hotels in Delhi by her aunt for prostitution. Also, the husband of her aunt and their domestic help used to repeatedly rape the minor and physically assault her,” Maliwal said.

Recently, the victim somehow managed to escape from her aunt’s custody and approached a woman who brought her to the DCW.

“The Commission took immediate cognizance of the matter and a team was sent to the Safdarjung Enclave police station. On her complaint, Delhi Police registered an FIR under relevant sections of IPC and POCSO,” said Maliwal. The victim’s aunt and her four associates have been arrested, said police.
