Dargah roof & wall collapse: Death toll rises to 7

Death count in the tragic roof and wall collapse incident in a structure at the Dargah at Humayun’s Tomb has risen to seven on Saturday, while the police have registered a case under relevant sections in this connection.

The FIR in this incident at the Patte Shah Dargah has been registered against unknown persons by the police under section 290 (negligent conduct in building-related activities), 125 (endangering human life or personal safety) and 106 (Causing Death by Negligence) of the BNS, as per officials.

It was on Friday afternoon that a wall and roof collapsed at the said Dargah resulting in a loss of five lives, injuring four. It is said that the incident is said to have occurred when people visited the place to offer prayers on Friday, and were inside the room.

According to the authorities, over ten people were rescued after the operation was completed.

The information regarding the incident was received by the police at around 3.55 pm on Friday.

The deceased persons include a 79 year-old-man, (resident of Malkaganj Delhi), a 37-year-old man, (resident of Zakir Nagar), a 56-year-old woman from Vasant Kunj enclave, and her 25-year-old-daughter, a 58-year-old woman from Bhogal area, a young man aged 25 years, who was from Sangam Vihar, and another 37 year-old-man from Bihar.

Upon rescue, these victims were rushed to the hospitals including AIIMS Trauma Centre, Lok Nayak Hospital and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

A total of around 25 personnel from the DFS with four fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

People nearby and passersby were the initial responders to the incident, rushing to the spot upon hearing the loud noise.
