Jajpur police arrested a man involved in several cases of cybercrime. The accused has been identified as Jitendra Kumar Sahoo of Parakula village in the neighbouring Kendrapara district.

He was held near N.C.College in Jajpur by a special squad headed by Jajpur SDPO Prasanta Kumar Mallha on Thursday night. A car, a laptop, 11 small mobile phones and 36 SIM cards, 12 ATM cards, 9 bank pass books, 7 cheque books and cash were recovered from him, said Mallha.

“The accused used to target the ASHA workers and the women posing them as the ASHA head quarter office senior official or the senior health officer and lured them of depositing money in their bank accounts under government welfare schemes”, Mr Mallha said.

Mallha said the accused operated remotely from mobile SIM cards issued on fake ID cards. Posing as senior ASHA or Health official , he cheated gullible women by asking their bank account number and ATM pin number.

He came to police net after an ASHA worker, identified as Sanjukta Nayak of Baidyarajpur filed a complaint with the Jajpur police that she was cheated by the fraud last year.

Police said as more than 30 cases of cybercrime frauds were registered against the accused at various police stations.
