Highlighting the importance of the cultural institutions in the present-day scenario, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Sigh Sandhu on Wednesday said that in the current era of rapid modernization, these institutions play a vital role in ensuring that the rich heritage remains a living force in public life.

Sandhu, who paid a visit to the Bhai Vir Singh Sahitya Sadan on Wednesday, stated that he reflected on the profound spiritual and literary contributions of Bhai Vir Singh, who is regarded as the ‘Father of Modern Punjabi Literature.’

Taking to social media platform X, Sandhu said his writings inspired generations and continue to guide us on our collective values. “Embracing PM Narendra Modi Ji’s vision of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi,” we remain deeply committed to strengthening our cultural roots alongside progress and urbanization,” he wrote.

“Recalled how Bhai Sahib hailed Sardar Teja Singh Samundri as a “Param Pavitra Shaheed,” describing his martyrdom in Lahore Jail in 1926 as a divine triumph of Sikh character and spirit,” he added.
Sandhu further said, “The visit was especially personal for me, as my father, Professor Bishan Singh Samundri, founding Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, was honoured with the Bhai Vir Singh International Award in 1993.”

Earlier, Sandhu met and interacted with a delegation of 65 youth participants from Chhattisgarh visiting under the Yuva Sangam Phase VI initiative at the Lok Niwas Delhi.
He said it is an impactful flagship program under the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative of the Education Mininstry, and this Yuva Sangam beautifully brings to life PM Modi’s vision of national integration through its five core pillars – Paryatan, Parampara, Pragati, Paraspar Sampark, and Prodyogiki.

He shared that during the interaction, India’s emerging global role was discussed, along with the transformation of public policy, and the unparalleled opportunities available to the youth, who remain the most vital stakeholders in shaping a Viksit Bharat 2047, he added.

Sandhu also shared perspectives from his journeys in public service and diplomacy.
