CPM Durgapur East MLA beaten by TMC supporters

Four CPI-M supporters including the sitting MLA of Durgapur (east) Assembly constituency, Santosh Deb Roy were injured when Trinamool Congress supporters allegedly attacked them with lathis and rods outside Durgapur Projects Limited (DPL) under Coke Oven Police Station area here this morning.

The incident took place in the morning when CPI-M supporters went to submit a memorandum to Durgapur Projects Limited (DPL) authority.

The CPI-M has been agitating against the decision of the state-owned power company’s decision to hike domestic power tariff and asking for submission of security money deposit.

It has been alleged the CPI-M supporters were attacked by Trinamool Congress supporters when they came out after submitting the memorandum to DPL administration official A.K.Kundu.Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress supporters fled the area.

The sitting MLA Santosh Deb Roy suffered head injury. The other three CPI-M supporters, admitted at Durgapur sub-divisional hospital also suffered head injuries. CPI-M has lodged an FIR at Coke Oven Police Station.

“The TMC attacked us without any provocation. I being an MLA was also not spared.

This is the situation of law and order in the state,” said Santosh Deb Roy.

Trinamul Congress leaders, Nayan Malakar, also an employee of DPL said the party workers attacked them after they hurled abusive language against the chief minister and the party.

Senior Trinamul Congress leader of Durgapur, Uttam Mukherjee said it were the CPI-M supporters who provoked the Trinamool Congress supporters.
