Uttarakhand Congress has so far failed to get any top national leader in their ongoing ’Vikas Sankalp Yatra.’ The first leg of the ‘Yatra’ will conclude on 7 December in Kashipur and former union minister Kapil Sibbal is expected to attend the public meeting.
The ‘Vikas Sankalp Yatra’ has more or less revolved around Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat, state Congress chief Kishore Upadhyaya and local MLAs. Star Congress campaigners has failed to make their presence so far in Uttarakhand. With the state assembly elections due early next year, not much time is left with the political parties.
On the other hand BJP pumped in a large number of their party’s star politicians in ‘Parivartan Yatra’ to exhibit their better poll management skills. BJP chief Amit Shah, Union water resources minister Uma Bharti, Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Major-General (Retd.) B.C Khanduri, ex-Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari, were among the leaders to feature in BJP’s  ‘Parivartan Yatra’- which began from Dehradun on 13 November.
Most of the time Chief Minister Harish Rawat was under attack from BJP leaders for featuring in a sting operation. Congress will be using the lawyer turned politicians, Kapil Sibbal as a tool for countering the BJP attack on the tv sting. Uttarakhand congress chief Kishore Upadhyaya said, “Kapil Sibbal will be felicitated for strongly perusing the case of Uttarakhand government, against the President rule imposed  in the hill state, in the court.”
As elections will approach near, more and more star campaigners from both the parties will head for Uttarakhand.  But, in the initial stages Uttarakhand BJP managed to get good support from the party high command. BJP spokesperson Vinay Goyal said, “The Harish Rawat government too will make exit like the UPA government. The Congress government is involved in mass corruption in Uttarakhand.”
