In a major setback to the Congress, its MLA from Raebareli Rakesh Singh and his brother Dinesh Singh, the MLC from Raebareli, quit the party on Wednesday.

According to a CNN-News18 report, the two leaders were unhappy with local leaders not being given credit for their work. It is likely that both are in talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The report added that Dinesh Singh was likely to join the BJP in the presence of party president Amit Shah, who arrived in Lucknow earlier in the day.

BJP chief Shah is slated to meet Dalit leaders at the BJP office in Lucknow to discuss their issues.

Notably, an FIR was, reportedly, filed against Dinesh for his alleged misbehaviour with police officials on duty during the recent visit of Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

In April 2017, a show-cause notice was issued to Dinesh Singh by the disciplinary committee of Uttar Pradesh Congress. The notice was issued by the chairman of the committee, Ram Krishna Dwivedi, for his “anti-party” activities.
