A complaint has been filed against Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district on Saturday, a day after he ‘insulted’ Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, by saying that “she was the first test tube baby of India”.

Advocate Chandan Kumar Singh on Saturday filed the complaint in the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court and it will be heard on June 8.

According to the petitioner, Sharma has not only hurt people’s religious sentiments but also insulted the country’s rich heritage, culture and tradition.

“Sharma’s statement is part of a well planned political and criminal conspiracy to hurt and insult sentiment of a particular religion,” said Chandan.

Sharma, speaking at the inauguration of a skill development event in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, claimed that Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, was in fact the first test tube baby of India.

“Sita was born from an earthen pot… at that time, some test tube baby project must be underway that King Janak was ploughing a field… Shouldn’t this technology be called test tube baby,” he said.

In another incident, an age-old fact was distorted in the English version of a Class 12 textbook in Gujarat which says that Sita was abducted by Lord Rama.

The Gujarat State School Textbook Board (GSSTB) described it as a translation error and ordered an inquiry.

“There is (a) very heart-touching description of the message conveyed by Laxman to Ram when Sita was abducted by Rama,” reads a paragraph giving some basic understanding to students about the epic ‘Raghuvansham’ written by celebrated Sanskrit poet Kalidasa.

GSSTB executive president Nitin Pethani claimed that the word ‘tyag’ has been translated and printed as “abducted” instead of “abandoned” by those who were given the task of translation and proof-reading.

Therefore, It should have been printed as ‘when Sita was abandoned by Lord Rama’, but following the error it got printed as ‘when Sita was abducted by Rama’.

The authorities said that an inquiry will be conducted in the matter.
