For the people of Sanguduchi bhata which is precisely four km from Khaprakhol block, collecting water in summer becomes a matter of life and death.

They are to be experts in the act of balancing on a plank laid across a 30 ft well to fetch a bucket of water. The expert balancing act is performed mostly by women and girls whose duty is to get water. It is a high risk daily affair for these women.

“I was dumbstruck when I saw how they are risking their life for water thus I decided to captured it in my mobile camera,” recounted Bhojraj Bariha a social worker from nearby village. Bariha who had spoke to the villagers found that it was a daily job during summer months.

As the ground water level went down in summer, the tube well provided by administration turn useless and village folks are forced to walk two km to the well.

“It happens every year, the situation is the same,” said Gurubari, a woman of the village while adding that repeated attempts to draw attention of the government officers failed to resolve the water crisis.

“On occasions after getting complaint from us certain official send water tanker to our village but that were never enough to satisfy the need of 1500 people” said another villager while depicting the ordeals.

Notably Sanguduchbhata is just few km from Khaprakhol block and occasionally finds mention due to migration and Maoist related incidents.
