CM Mamata Banerjee appeals for votes in administrative meet

Mamata Banerjee also announced plans to recruit 89,000 teachers soon

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee addressing a public meeting said, “None can bear the responsibility to lend absolute welfare to the masses through the Panchayats and for that I put forward my appeal before you to elect our candidates in the Panchayats in coming election.”

She was addressing the mass assembled from Bankura district blocks like Sonamukhi, Bishnupur, Onda, Barjora, Beliatore and of course from Patrasayar where she laid foundation for a number of road, tourism, school, irrigation projects for the district and distributed government facilities linked to social welfare schemes, agriculture and mass education meant for the rural beneficiaries.

The chief minister said, “Despite severe fund crunch we have helped all round development in the respective panchayats that you all know and none of the works are left pending.”

Bankura has 190 Panchayats operating under 22 Panchayat Samiti’s. The Trinamul Congress, in 2013 election had grabbed the entire Samiti’s except Hirbandh, which too later was converted to a Trinamul Congress run body as most the members migrated to the party.

The chief minister’s political appeal at a government programme meanwhile, has irked a section of the Opposition.

The CPI-M’s district secretary Mr Ajit Pati alleged: “How could she campaign for her party using government dais. Is it the sign of her democratic mind?”

The chief minister is scheduled to hold her administrative meeting with the senior district administration and police officials in Bankura town on Wednesday.

On Monday, she addressed the mass at Kankardanga in Patrasayar, she said, “Why you need to elect our party in your Panchayats because our government implements government schemes through these local bodies and for that we need to have our members to help smooth navigation of the beneficial programmes.”
