In a dramatic turn of events, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s advisor V K Jain on Thursday confirmed the charges against the two Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators ~ Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal ~ who were arrested for assaulting chief secretary Anshu Prakash during a meeting at the chief minister’s residence late on Monday.

The Delhi Police had called Jain for questioning as the chief secretary in his complaint had mentioned that Jain was present at the meeting when he was allegedly roughed up by the AAP legislators.

Jain’s statement was recorded at the Civil Lines police station under Section 164 Cr PC and it was read by the public prosecutor at Tiz Hazari court.

According to Jain’s statement, during the meeting he went to use washroom but when he came back he saw the chief secretary picking up his spectacles from the ground, while AAP MLAs were abusing him and accusing him of working for the BJP. Jain said the AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal hit the chief secretary on his forehead and temple.

However, the statement contradicts Jain’s earlier statement ~which he had recorded late on Wednesday night~ in which had said while coming back from washroom, he saw the chief secretary leaving the room and was not sure whether he was beaten or not.

Negating Jain’s latest statement, AAP claimed that he was “pressurised” to change his statement and termed it a “conspiracy” to frame Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in order to bring down the elected government of Delhi.

“How come Jain changed his stand within a day. Under whose pressure was he forced to change his statement? The truth is that Jain was picked up by the Delhi Police this morning, and was pressured to change his statement,” senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh said at a Press conference.

He said AAP MLAs are being arrested over an alleged assault of which there is no proof, while despite there being video footage of officials assaulting Delhi Cabinet minister Imran Hussain, there is no action taken against the guilty by the Delhi police.

Singh, without naming anyone said, the same people are behind this conspiracy who turned witnesses in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, brought about Judge Loya’s death and killed every single witness in the Vyapam scam case.

Earlier in the day, AAP minister Rajendra Pal Gautam was detained as he was going to Union home minister Rajnath Singh’s residence to protest against the alleged casteist remarks made by Anshu Prakash against AAP Ambedkar Nagar MLA Ajay Dutt in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the two arrested AAP MLAs were on Thursday sent to 14-day judicial custody in Tihar Jail by a Delhi court which reserved its order on their bail pleas for on Friday.
