Clerk arrested by vigilance on graft charge

A senior clerk has been arrested by Odisha’s anti-corruption vigilance wing for allegedly accepting a bribe from a man to process a file for the registration of an NGO in Kendrapara district, a vigilance release said.

Acting on a complaint, vigilance personnel laid a trap and caught Suvendu Kumar Tripathy, a senior clerk in the office of the Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Kendrapara while acccepting an illegal gratification of Rs 1,500 from the complainant yesterday, the release said.

Tripathy had demanded Rs 2,000 from the complainant for finalising the registration of his NGO as per Societies Registration Act, 1860.

The amount was finally reduced to Rs 1,500, the complainant said.

The clerk was caught red-handed by the vigilance officers in his office room at the Collectorate in Kendrapara while accepting the bribe from the complainant, the release said.

The bribe money was recovered from Tripathy’s possession following which he was arrested, the release said.
