Father and uncle of the accused have also been detained for threatening the victim’s family

The incident had occurred on 20 April afternoon at a place near Paika riverbed. However, the matter came to light when the girl narrated the incident to her parents on Saturday.
The parents of the accused, when informed of the incident, sought an amicable settlement and also warned of dire consequences if the matter was taken to the police.

Despite intimidation, the victim’s parents brought it to the notice of police, said Sub Divisional Police Officer Rajib Lochan Panda.
The accused who is 13-year-old and a Class 9 student of a local school, has been taken into custody. Besides the father and uncle of the accused have been detained for threatening the victim’s family and attempting to cover up the crime, he said.
Both the victim and the accused were medically examined.
The juvenile delinquent has been booked under Section 376 (rape), 557 (Assault or criminal force in attempt wrongfully to confine a person), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation) and Sections 4 and 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act (POCSO). The case will be sent to district juvenile justice board.
