The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials conducted raids and searched three flats linked to former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh at three different locations in the city on Wednesday and recovered cash worth Rs 2.5 crore. The state probe agency, however, stopped short of naming the owner of the residences where searches were conducted.

“We can’t disclose the name of the owner as some legal obligations are there. Verification is still on and we will let you know the name of the owners of the flats being searched in due course,” Nishad Parvez, DIG CID (operations), said.

Though Mr Parvez ducked questions on which locations the raids were conducted, sources in the CID said that an apartment at Madurdaha reportedly belonging to Mrs Ghosh was searched for nearly three hours. “Three flats in three places in the city was thoroughly searched on Wednesday and would be searched in days to come too.

We have been able to recover cash worth Rs 2.5 crore. The amount may go up further as the search is still on. We have to break open the almirah where the cash was kept,” DIG CID said. Asked to comment on the complaints lodged against the CID at Netajinagar and Anandapur police stations on behalf of the former IPS officer, the DIG CID said: “They have their rights to lodge complaints but we are conducting raids adhering to all legal formalities and with search warrants in hand.”

“Since 1 February, we have been conducting raids at different residences maintaining all legal formalities according to the CrPC. But this time we have search warrants in our hands and we conducted the raids accordingly on Wednesday,” Mr Pervez said.
