Following Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu’s directions for the Child Safety Month observed in Delhi, the Special Police Unit for Women and Children under leadership of Police Commissioner Satish Golcha conducted self-defence training programmes on Monday at 13 locations across the national capital, covering various schools.
Approximately 7,000 school students participated in these programmes with great enthusiasm, organized by the Self Defence Wing of the SPUWAC.
The specialized training sessions were conducted by expert Self-Defence technique trainers of SPUWAC, who displayed practical techniques and educated students on personal safety, situational awareness, confidence-building and appropriate responses during challenging situations.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) SPUWAC Neha Yadav, the Delhi Police remain committed to ensuring the safety, security and well-being of children and will continue to organize similar awareness and self-defence programmes across the national capital.
Under the Child Safety Awareness Month, the Delhi Police, as part of its ‘WE-CARE’ initiative, also organised a child safety awareness programme at CM Shri School in Jwalapuri, Delhi.
The event was aimed at educating young students on various aspects of personal safety, road safety, and cyber security through an engaging blend of awareness sessions, practical demonstrations, and interactive activities.
There was a performance by the Delhi Police Orchestra Band, whose patriotic songs enthralled the young audience and received an overwhelming response from the students.
A series of interactive and informative sessions were also conducted by the specialised teams from the Delhi Police.
The SPUWAC team delivered an informative session on self-defence, complemented by practical demonstrations of basic self-defence techniques to enhance the confidence and preparedness of the students in challenging situations.
Meanwhile, the traffic unit sensitised students on essential road safety rules, pedestrian discipline and safe commuting practices, while the staff from Cyber Police Station, Outer District, addressed the gathering on cyber safety, focusing on the threats of online financial scams, digital fraud, and the precautions children must adopt to protect themselves in the virtual world.
Earlier, it was last month that the SPUWAC had held its 22nd Self Defence summer camp across four different places in the city.
The aim behind the initiative is to empower girls and the women, preparing them for any untoward situation so that they can respond in the right way and protect themselves.
Yadav had said that building confidence is crucial, especially for girls, and such initiatives help achieve this.
According to the senior police official, the response time and the reaction in an untoward situation is something that really helps a person handle an untoward situation in the correct manner.
Interestingly, the special unit of the police has designed the training module in a way that the participants are imparted training in self-defence techniques, are sensitized on issues relating to women safety, and other survival skills.
