Chandni Chowk MP Khandelwal asks traders to help remove encroachments, appoint security guards

In an effort to instil a sense of security in the Chandni Chowk market following the recent explosion near Red Fort, a meeting of the traders’ association with local MP Praveen Khandelwal and Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Delhi) was held on Friday.

The meeting focused on new secrurity measures to be undertaken in the densely-crowded Old Delhi area, along with issues such as increasing encroachment, traffic congestion due to rickshaws.

The MP assured the DCP that the traders themselves would remove the encroachments around their shops and appoint security guards in the markets. He requested the senior official to ensure police verification, training, and administrative assistance for the security guards appointed by the traders.

Officials from Delhi Police and the Public Works Department (PWD) were also present in the meeting. They assured the traders that the issues raised by them would be resolved in a time-bound manner.

The meeting was also attended by Chandni Chowk District BJP president Arvind Garg, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor, and trader representatives and leaders from Chandni Chowk and Old Delhi.
