Even as the Punjab Police on Saturday said it suspects Pakistan’s hand in the rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack at a police station in the state’s border district of Tarn Taran, Opposition parties demanded resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab.
The RPG attack took place at about 11.22 pm on Friday. About 10 policemen were present at the police station at that time but no casualty was reported.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the RPG was military-grade hardware and there was a possibility that it was smuggled from across the border.
“There is a clear indication that it is a strategy of the neighbouring nation to bleed India by a thousand cuts,” he said after visiting the site. Yadav said police have recovered the rocket launcher and propeller.
The DGP said the Punjab Police is working in tandem with the Border Security Force and Central agencies and will give an appropriate reply to anti national forces. He said that the number of intrusions by drones has increased manifold on the international border especially in Tarn Taran and Amritsar border belt.
Earlier in May, a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) was fired at the Punjab Police’s Intelligence headquarters located in Mohali. Shiromani Akali Dal today demanded resignation of Mann as Chief Minister as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by him has totally failed to maintain law and order in the state.
SAD Spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said this is the first time in the history of the state when RPG attacks were taking place. He said during last eight months Punjabis have witnessed a number of murders including high profile murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala.
He said that in Ludhiana alone police have recorded 55 cases in which industrialists and traders have got calls for ransom. He said people including traders and Industrialist were scared for living and doing business in Punjab and they are fleeing from state only because of
atmosphere of terror in Punjab.
The SAD leader said that now instead of further trying to fool people, Mann should immediately resign as CM because he has completely failed to run the state and people will not believe his words any further.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Tarun Chugh said militants and gangsters are running Punjab as the AAP government has  completely failed to maintain law and order in the state.
Chugh said the CM should stop his tourism politics and seek apology from the state for failing dismally to discharge his responsibility. He said that Mann should resign if he was unable to keep law and order in control in the border state.
He said the militant attack on police by firing missiles at the Intelligence headquarters in Mohali and a police station in Tarn Taran has sent alarming signals to the people. There is Panic and deep sense of fear among people in Punjaband all classes are living in terror of militants and  gangsters, Chugh added.
