Haryana joint electoral officer, Inder Jeet, on Tuesday said only the voter whose name is there in the voters’ list could exercise his franchise.

He said if a voter’s name is in the voter list but he does not have an Electors Photo Identity Card (Epic), then he can cast his vote by showing 11 alternative identity proofs as specified by the Commission.

Sharing more information in this regard, Inder Jeet said that even if the voter has an old Epic card, he can cast his vote, provided that his name should be in the voter list of that region.

He further said that if the name of any voter is not in the voters list and he shows his Aadhaar Card or any other identity card at the polling booth, then he will not be allowed to cast his vote.

The joint electoral officer said that only that voter will be allowed to vote, whose name is listed in the voter list of that region.

He said that 11 alternative photo identification documents issued  by the Commission include passport, driving license, service identity cards with photograph issued to employees by Central, State governments, public sector undertakings or public limited companies, passbooks with photograph issued by bank or post office, PAN card, smart card, MNREGA Job Card, health insurance smart card issued under the scheme of Union ministry of labour, pension document with photograph, official identity cards issued to elected representatives and Adhaar Card.

He said for the convenience of the voters, ‘Voter Search Engine’ has been made available on website https://ceoharyana.nic.in/

Inder Jeet said that this search engine will work as normal search engine through which the voter can easily get information about his or her vote. With the help of this search engine, voters can enter their epic number and easily check their votes.

He said that even if any voter has forgotten his epic number, he can check his vote through the search engine by filling his name and father and husband, etc. He said that the polling station’s voter list is also uploaded on the website, even by downloading it; a person can check his name. Apart from this, voters can also check their votes by calling helpline number – 1950.
