The best gram panchayat in the state is from West Bengal and the state is also in the top in generating rural employment across states. The elated chief minister Mamata Banerjee said this on Saturday while reacting to this ‘good news’ to the reporters at the state secretariat Nabanna, “It’s good news – Digambarpur village in South 24 Parganas district has been selected as the best panchayat in the country. We are also in the top in rural employment generation across the states.”

“Apart from that, there has been a 40 per cent drop in the unemployment rate in our state and this has already been appreciated in the question-answer session in the Parliament. I congratulate to those people in the South 24 Parganas zilla parishad and rural body who have done a great job to make Digambarpur number one in the country,” she added.

Just before upcoming panchayat election, it will surely boost up Trinamul Congress despite a continuous propaganda of the opposition parties against TMC.

When the news came in the panchayat office of Digambarpur gram panchayat within Patharpratima panchayat samiti in South 24 Parganas district that the centre has declared the Digambarpur gram panchayat as the best gram panchayat in India according to performance, the TMC men in the panchayat area came out of their houses and expressed their joy.

When the news came in, sweets were distributed to the villagers on Saturday afternoon. Everyone was enjoying this news and there was no dispute between the supporters of the Opposition parties and the ruling party.

After Aila, the severe cyclonic storm that had hit the Sunderbans including the Patharpratima block in 2009, Digambarpur gram panchayat was also badly affected in the same.

But the gram panchayat turned around again for some particular planning on development. The panchayat pradhan, Mr Rabindranath Bera, said, “We are very glad to know the news that our panchayat has been awarded as the best panchayat in the country and the main cause behind this is success was our co-operation regarding the development issues. The Oppositions also helped us to make the village as the best village of India.”
