The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a Head Constable of the Delhi Police while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh from a complainant, agency sources said.
The central probe agency registered a case on Monday against the accused Head Constable, posted at Ashok Vihar police station, and another unknown person.
According to the complaint, a Sub-Inspector and the Head Constable had demanded ₹3 lakh from the complainant in exchange for not registering a First Information Report (FIR) against him.
After negotiations, the accused agreed to accept ₹2 lakh to close a complaint pending against the complainant.
The Head Constable allegedly instructed the complainant to pay him ₹1 lakh on Monday. Acting on this input, the CBI laid a trap and caught him red-handed while accepting the bribe.
Further investigation is underway, with sleuths gathering more details.
The agency said this stern action against a public servant underscores its commitment to curbing corruption. It also urged citizens to report any such instances without hesitation.
